CBD = No High, Why?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is extracted from the marijuana or hemp plant. The chemical makeup of both these plants is slightly different, especially when it comes to the quantity of THC. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant that gets you high. CBD extracted from the hemp plant contains traces of THC of less than 0.3% - whereas CBD extracted from marijuana may contain more than 5%. Both CBD and THC interact with the endocannabinoid system of the body but produce very different results. 

The chemical structure of CBD and THC

If we give a glance to the atomic structure of CBD and THC, it is precisely the same. However, the different arrangements of the same carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Their formation is also similar to the endocannabinoids of the body. The interaction of the cannabinoids triggers the production of neurotransmitters in our brain that eventually play their role in pain management, immune function, and optimum functioning of the body based off studies. 

Can CBD get you high?

CBD extracted from hemp contains far less quantity of THC to cause a high. Much higher concentrations of CBD may cause an uplifting effect, but it is nowhere near the feeling of high. So, CBD won't get you high even if you are taking higher doses of it.

Side effects of THC

THC can cause some more temporary side effects such as increased heart rate, coordination problems, dry mouth, red eyes, slower reaction times and memory loss. Larger doses of THC can cause long term adverse effects on the brain and its functions.
